Neil Bullock wasn’t just a friend — he was part of a chapter in life that will always feel warm, bright, and full of laughter.
I first met Neil when he came to rent a room from me in Hove, Sussex. He took the attic bedroom — or as we fondly called it, “The Anne Frank Suite.” From the very beginning, he fit right in, becoming not just a housemate but a true friend.
That house was something special. Between my two dogs, Neil’s two cats, a school teacher, and a nurse, it could have been chaos — but instead, it was harmony. We all got on so wonderfully, sharing a kind of easy companionship that you don’t come across often in life.
Neil brought warmth, humour, and a quiet kindness that made everything better. Whether it was nights out clubbing — dancing, laughing, and making the most of our youth — or simple moments at home, he was always part of what made those times unforgettable.
The house itself couldn’t have been better placed — just a stone’s throw from Hove Lawns and the seafront, and next door but one to a lovely local pub. In the summer, weekends seemed to stretch endlessly. We’d sit outside in the sunshine, chatting with pub-goers, watching the world drift by, and laughing about nothing and everything all at once. Those were the days that felt like they’d never end.
And in many ways, they haven’t — because those memories are still here, vivid and alive.
Neil was part of that magic. Part of those carefree, joyful years that shape who we become. He will always be remembered not just for who he was, but for how he made people feel — included, relaxed, and happy to be exactly where they were.
Though he’s gone, the memories remain — full of laughter, sunshine, friendship, and the kind of happiness that only comes once in a lifetime.
Rest easy, Neil. You’ll never be forgotten.
Colin
